With a population of about 3.8 million people, the City of Los Angeles is California’s most populous city and the second most populous in the United States behind New York City. However, if you’re looking at the Greater Los Angeles Area, the population estimate climbs to over 18 million. Transportation

The Los Angeles metropolitan area has an extensive array of freeways and highways, but has been ranked as one of the most congested cities in the United States. Thankfully, when Angelenos don’t want to drive, they have a wide variety of affordable public transportation options available to them. They can also use the city’s network of bike paths and bike lanes. Going green, but don’t want to bike? Schools

With a student population of approximately 800,000 students, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) serves most of the City of Los Angeles and some of the surrounding communities as well. The district has set some tough goals for itself, including: 100% graduation rates, 100% attendance, parent and community engagement, and school safety.

 

In the Greater Los Angeles Area, you’ll find many different options for colleges and universities. Among those located in the city itself, you’ll find:

Cultural Offerings

If you enjoy the performing arts, L.A. is the place for you. Hollywood, which is a district of Los Angeles, is globally renowned as the center of the motion picture industry. The city hosts many movie studios and plays host to the Academy Awards. However, L.A.’s performing arts offerings go far beyond the cinematic. The city plays host to over 1,000 theatrical productions every year with approximately 21 shows opening every week. You can also visit the Los Angeles Music Center which includes: the Walt Disney Concert Hall, home of the the Los Angeles Philharmonic; the Center Theatre Group, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Los Angeles Opera.

 

Los Angeles County is also the site of over 800 museums and galleries. There are more museums per capita in this city than in any other city in the world. Some of the notable museums in the L.A. area are: the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Battleship Iowa, and the Getty Center.
